Hatch, New Mexico

Hatch grows the famous chiles, and we had to visit and buy some for our freezer. The town has some interesting sights, including a restaurant with a host of statues around it. One of the statues shows a bride and groom chile.

After our visit, we had lunch at the Arrey Cafe, Arrey, New Mexico. Sandi had a huge burrito!

Last Night Fireworks

The last night of Balloon Fiesta, October 10, had the finale fireworks show. Managed to grab some photos.

Balloon Ascensions, 10 October 2015

The best ascensions took place the morning of the 10th. Hundreds of balloons were launched, and with a freshening wind, many of them came over our RV and some landed in front of us. Some landed in the dirt road just behind our RV, and we rushed out to help the pilot, lest their balloon hit us.

One of the following images shows three balloons colliding (fortunately softly) in the winds.

Learning to Crew for a Hot Air Balloon

We spent the early morning at an elementary school in Albuquerque, as our pilot walked us through all the steps to prepare and inflate his hot air balloon. After the children got to watch the process, we learned how to take down and pack up the balloon.

Albuquerque Balloon Festival

We are here for the next 2 weeks. There are already balloons in the air (Oct 1), and we hope to work with the pilots on some over the next several days.

Meanwhile, the views in the morning are spectacular.

Cumbres and Toltec Railroad

We took the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad on the 25th. Amazing experience. The aspens are starting to color in the mountains above Chama, New Mexico. We were able to take lots of photos on the train trip, and then waited for the train on the 26th to pass, so we could take more photos!

Los Alamos, New Mexico

We visited the museum in Los Alamos. There were items from the Manhattan Project, as well as information about Cray Research, a company we worked for in the 80's and 90's.

Post Office Window, Buchanan, Michigan

Post Office window in Buchanan, Michigan. This 1940's post office has most of the original woodwork, and several fixtures, such as this clerk window. There was a WPA mural, but a postmaster had it painted over.

Image taken with phone and enhanced with Snapseed.

Lower Michigan

We are in lower Michigan, getting ready to move north to cool off. We've had very hot weather in Iowa and elsewhere. Just finished having the refrigerator worked on in Shipshewana, Indiana. Hope it stays together.

Prime Rib in Iowa

Once more, we are in Northern Iowa for the Winnebago rally. Of course, our visit would not be complete without prime rib at the Branding Iron, Thompson, Iowa.

Glacier National Park

Visiting this area for the first time. Glacier is awesome! We will be visiting other parts of the park, but for now, this is an image of McDonald lake near the west entrance.

Southern Utah

Visiting Southern Utah, one of our favorite places. This is Wilson Arch, south of Moab, right on the highway.
